27 arrested in Sacramento County human trafficking sting

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s office arrested 27 “sex buyers” on Friday while conducting a human trafficking operation.”This particular human trafficking operation we were targeting the buyers,” said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson for the office. “They go after the girls, we’re going after them.”Gandhi said deputies conducted the undercover operation in the Watt Avenue Corridor.”Each operation, we’ll target different areas,” Gandhi said. “Sometimes we try to cast a wide net and get everybody, but in this particular operation we were going after what’s traditionally known as the ‘Johns.’ Theses guys are the sex buyers. These are the ones enabling all this trafficking to occur.”The sheriff’s office said some of the people arrested tried to bargain with undercover deputies by proposing money, narcotics and even food. Officials said 22 vehicles were towed as part of the operation, including a commercial big rig.Included in the arrested suspects was someone on parole with a prior conviction for child molestation, as well as a commercial truck driver still in his big rig, the sheriff’s office said.Officials have not said what charges the individuals arrested face.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app.
