Firefighters work to extinguish fire near Fort Totten Metro Station

WASHINGTON — Crews are working to put out a fire that sparked near the Fort Totten Metro Station Friday night.

According to DC Fire and EMS, firefighters were called to the 5001 block of Fort Totten Drive, Northeast, for a fire shortly before 9:30 p.m. 

The large fire is outside at the Fort Totten Solid Waste Disposal Transfer Station and no structures are involved. 

DC Fire and EMS say crews are using large-diameter water streams to surround and knock down the fire.

There is no word on what caused the fire at this time. 

Pictures of the fire shared with WUSA9 show a large plume of smoke coming from the flames near the Fort Totten Metro Station.
