(FOX40.COM) — West Sacramento’s Sycamore Trail pedestrian overcrossing is making good progress towards completion as it reaches an important milestone, according to a recent social media post from the city.
On Friday, the city announced that additional supports for the bridge have been removed and it is now self-supported and ready for final improvements.
The pedestrian bridge will eliminate the existing barrier of Highway 50 from connecting the two existing branches of the Sycamore Trail at Evergreen Avenue and the Washington Unified School District Clarendon Street Campus.
The city expects the $16.9 million overcross to be completed by the summer of 2024. The rest of the project will feature landscaping, lighting, park features and decorative fencing along the bridge “to welcome motorists to the City of West Sacramento.”
On April 6, 2023, the city broke ground on the project at 2095 Evergreen Avenue, just south of Joey Lopes Park.
