The lights of Firefly Music Festival have flickered out again after AEG Presents officially canceled the event for a second consecutive year, the company announced on Thursday.

AEG shelved last year’s festival in order to “take a year to recharge our lights.” They said at the time, however, that Firefly would return to the Woodlands of Dover Motor Speedway in 2024.

Firefly’s organizers this week said they hope to resurrect the festival “when the timing is right” but stopped short of teasing a return in 2025.

“Firefly Music Festival will not return in 2024,” Dennis Dennehy, AEG’s Chief Communications Officer, told the Daily State News. “We look forward to powering Firefly’s lights back on someday when the timing is right, but until then, The Woodlands will continue to host new music events for years to come.”

Firefly has remained a staple in the Northeast’s live music scene since its inaugural festival in 2012. Founded by Red Frog Events, the event became so successful that it was ultimately acquired by AEG, the entertainment giant who runs Coachella, in 2018.

The last Firefly Music Festival in 2022 featured performances by Zedd, Porter Robinson, Gryffin and John Summit, among other electronic music artists.
