(BCN) — A pedestrian was struck and killed Tuesday night near Hayward, California Highway Patrol said.

The collision occurred on northbound Mission Boulevard, north of Blossom Way in Cherryland at about 7:35 p.m., CHP said.

According to CHP, a gray Chevrolet Tahoe was driving in the second lane of northbound Mission Boulevard when it crashed into a male pedestrian standing outside of a crosswalk.

The man, a 73-year-old resident of Hayward, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, CHP said, but the collision remains under investigation.
