New person of interest into custody in Jewish leader Samantha Woll’s slaying, Detroit police say

A new person of interest has been taken into custody in connection with the killing of Jewish leader Samantha Woll, Detroit police confirmed.

The suspect’s identity was not released.

“In an effort to ensure the integrity of this ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time” but more information will be made public “in the near future,” the police said, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Woll, 40, was the president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue. She was fatally stabbed outside her home in the early morning hours of Oct 21. While no motive in the killing has been released, police have said their investigation found it is likely the result of a domestic dispute and not connected to the nationwide rising in antisemitism.

Woll worked for U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin and on the reelection campaign of state Attorney General Dana Nessel.

A person of interest was arrested in Michigan in November. But the individual was not charged and got released after several days.

Police previously said they believe the assailant acted alone.
