Bruno Mars canceled a concert in Tel Aviv scheduled for Saturday night after Hamas launched a surprise attack into Israel.
The “24K Magic” singer, 38, played his first-ever show in Israel on Wednesday night at Park HaYarkon in Tel Aviv. The venue was sold out for both scheduled performances.
“Dear customers, Bruno Mars concert scheduled to take place tonight is canceled,” promoter Live Nation wrote in Hebrew on Instagram.
The message said tickets would be refunded. “We stand with the residents of Israel, IDF fighters and the security forces in these difficult moments,” the Instagram post said.
Mars, whose legal name is Peter Hernandez, had a concert planned Sunday in Qatar that remained on his schedule. Photographs showed the singer and his team at an Israeli airport, from where they were to fly to Athens and then on to Qatar.
Following the Qatar show, Mars’ tour is scheduled for a two-month break before resuming in the United States.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country was “at war” with Hamas after dozens of Palestinian fighters stormed into Israel from the blockaded Gaza Strip on Saturday morning. Hamas also fired hundreds of rockets into Israel as part of the coordinated assault.
