87-year-old’s death at Maryland senior facility investigated as homicide, police say

A spokesperson for Cogir Senior Living told WUSA9 on Sunday that its staff has been cooperating with authorities on their investigation.

POTOMAC, Md. — The death of an 87-year-old man at a senior living facility in Potomac is being investigated as a homicide, the Montgomery County Department of Police said on Sunday. 

The 87-year-old was reported dead after emergency crews found him unresponsive Saturday morning. The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the Cogir Potomac Senior Living facility at around 7:30 a.m. 

Soon, MCPD’s Major Crimes Division was called to look into the man’s death based on evidence at the scene, with detectives launching a homicide investigation after processing the scene. 

MCPD said they would release more information, including the man’s name, once the next of kin are notified. 

There was no information from MCPD about any potential suspect or suspects. 

A spokesperson for Cogir Senior Living told WUSA9 on Sunday that its staff has been cooperating with authorities on their investigation, adding that they could not give more information about what happened. 

“Because this is an ongoing investigation and out of respect for the family’s privacy, we are unable to provide additional details at this time,” Cogir Senior Living spokesperson said. “The safety and well-being of our residents and team members remain our highest priority.” 

Cogir Senior Living is located on Potomac Tennis Lane just off the Falls Road Golf Course in Potomac.
