An 80-year-old man was fatally shot in the head by a gunman on a scooter on a Bronx street early Sunday, police said.

Marcelino Valerio was near W. 168th St. and Ogden Ave. in Highbridge when the gunman opened fire about 1:10 a.m., police said.

Nearby patrol officers heard the shots and came running but Valerio died at the scene. It’s not clear if he was the intended target, an NYPD spokesman said.

The gunman, dressed in all black, rode off on a black motorized scooter and has not been caught, cops said.

The killing comes amid a drop in murders and shootings in the 44th Precinct, which saw 12 homicides this year through Sept. 10, a 33% decrease from the 18 killings reported in the same time frame last year.
