50 Cent has lost his appeal of a lawsuit in which he sought $32 million from his former lawyers.

50 Cent — whose legal name is Curtis Jackson — accused the law firm Reed Smith and a former partner of the firm, Peter Raymond, of legal malpractice in a trial that resulted in a $7 million judgment against him.

Hartford, Conn. Federal Judge Vanessa Bryant decided Friday that Jackson’s claims were unsubstantiated.

The rapper had claimed that Reed Smith utilized an “uninformed” legal strategy during the trial of a 2015 lawsuit filed by a woman whose sex tape he had shared online during a feud with rapper Rick Ross.

Jackson also said there was a conflict of interest because a Reed Smith lawyer had previously represented rapper Ross, who was a potential witness in that trial. Ultimately, Ross never testified in the case.

In her ruling, Bryant said Jackson failed to show how his lawyers’ interests were divided or how the conflict resulted in him losing the trial.

“Without more, the court cannot conclude the conflict of interest impacted counsel’s discovery strategy [through which Jackson’s lawyers would have amassed evidence before the trial], or that the conflict caused Jackson to lose at trial,” Bryant said in her decision.

Before the woman’s lawsuit was tried, Jackson decided to drop Reed Smith as his legal counsel.

After he lost at trial and was ordered to pay the woman $7 million in damages, Jackson filed for bankruptcy.

In the bankruptcy court, Reed Smith filed a claim for $609,000 in legal fees.

Jackson countered with his own claims of malpractice, asking for $7 million in actual damages from the law firm and $25 million in punitive damages.

In a pair of decisions in 2019 and 2021, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Ann Nevins dismissed Jackson’s claims. Jackson appealed Nevins’ decisions to Bryant’s court.

Lawyers for Jackson and a spokesperson for Reed Smith, a Pittsburgh-based firm, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

50 Cent is expected to kick off his “Final Lap Tour” later this month, which will commemorate the 20th anniversary of his debut album, “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” with stops in North America and Europe.
