BRIGHTON, Colo (KDVR) — The Brighton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding several young suspects seen breaking into, or attempting to break into, over a dozen cars early Labor Day morning.
“It wasn’t just concentrated on one street, or one section, it was the whole neighborhood,” said Villages at Prairie Center resident Dawn Coleman, who has lived in the neighborhood for three years. “It happens a lot in our neighborhood, so we have to make sure we keep our cars in the garage all the time. We have to make sure in our neighborhood we communicate with each other, let each other know when something has happened.”
BPD says five young male suspects in a red sedan were seen breaking into, or attempting to break into, at least 12-15 cars between 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. Monday morning. Coleman was able to capture surveillance of what appears to be someone running back to a car without its headlights on, driving slowly down their street, during that timeframe.
“It’s very nerve-wracking to be honest with you. It makes me even more grateful that my car can actually fit in the garage,” said Coleman. “We have an alarm system on our house just because you never know, are they going to start breaking into our houses too?”
Down the street, neighbor Tammy Ramer reports her husband’s truck was stolen twice in the four years they have lived there. She checked her cameras as well, but thankfully wasn’t hit this time around.
“We saw some police activity out here, so we looked at our cameras and spent about three hours going through video,” said Ramer. “Couple cops showed up and asked us more questions. They are all over this.”
BPD says if there was any suspicious activity near your vehicle by juveniles that match this description within the timeframe mentioned above, please contact them at (303) 288-1535 and send over your surveillance footage.
“Rallying against this, us coming together, sharing our videos, our stories, helping Brighton PD out,” said Ramer. “Wrong neighborhood… We all stick together… Go somewhere else, or just quit, that would be even better.”
