DC police closed off several streets, and indicated that the shooting was at Georgia Avenue, NW and Howard Place, NW.
WASHINGTON — DC police are on the scene after five people were shot near Howard University Friday evening.
Initially, fire officials indicated that four people had been shot. According to police, none of the victims were Howard students.
They say none of the victims’ injuries were life threatening. They say four were males, one was a female.
According to officials, the incident presented no additional threat to the public.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m., police indicated via X that they were investigating a shooting in the area of Georgia Avenue, Northwest and Howard Place, Northwest.
They have not released any identifying information regarding a possible suspect, but they have indicated that “the scene is secure” via social media.
Shortly before 9 p.m., police indicated that several road closures were in effect.

- 700 – 800 Blocks of Barry Pl NW
- 600 Block of Howard Pl NW
- 2300 Block of 6th St NW
Howard University is celebrating Homecoming this weekend. Police have not said that the incident was connected with the university or the celebration.
