PORTLAND, Ore. — The Safeway Foundation will hold its 25th annual Truckload of Coats drive on Friday, Nov. 14, collecting warm clothing for Transition Projects, a Portland nonprofit that helps people experiencing homelessness move into permanent housing.
Donations will be accepted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at two Safeway locations: 1100 NE Broadway St. in Portland and 13485 NW Cornell Road in the Cedar Mill neighborhood. Organizers are asking for new or gently used adult cold-weather items, including winter coats, raincoats, waterproof boots, durable pants, hats, gloves and handwarmers. Donors will receive a $5 Safeway gift card, a Columbia Sportswear Employee Store pass and a Poler Seltzer voucher while supplies last.
The event is held annually during Veterans Day week. A Veteran receiving services from Transition Projects will be at the event and available for interviews. Transition Projects operates shelters, outreach programs and housing services across the Portland area and last year supported more than 1,100 Veteran households.
