The classic T-shirt is one of the few true clothing necessities. We fashion folk love to wax poetic about the importance of wardrobe staples—and debate which staples are true must-haves—but on one truth we can agree: A closet without a tee is missing a vital organ.

No matter how you would categorize your personal style, a T-shirt will find its way into your rotation. Cozy chic? Bohemian? Boardroom babe? Whether you prefer draping yourself in comfortable pajamas or workout clothes or the best work pants, your outfit will eventually call for a tee. One of the best attributes of a T-shirt is its versatility: You can easily pair it under an oversized blazer for added elegance, match it with leggings for a run, add a skirt for a bit of romance, or slip into sweatpants at the end of a long day. The tee will see you through it all.

Still, as such, it’s easy to grow a little too attached to one specific T-shirt. That free one you got just for participating in your middle school intramural bowling league? Hate to break it to you, but it might be time to retire it (or stitch it into a quilt!). The time to refresh your T-shirt collection is nigh, dear friend.
