Two people were killed and six more were injured in a mass stabbing on the Las Vegas Strip on Thursday, police said.

A suspect, identified only as a man in his early 30s, was arrested near the scene around 11:45 a.m., cops said. Capt. Dori Koren said the suspect used a large kitchen knife in the attack.

Some of the victims were Vegas showgirls taking photos with tourists, according to witnesses who spoke with local TV stations.

Sheriff Joe Lombardo said only that “a combination of locals and tourists” were victims of the attack. The six injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals, with three in critical condition and three in stable condition, police said.

The apparently unprovoked attack began on the sidewalk in front of the Wynn and Encore hotels on the Strip, cops said. The suspect randomly stabbed two people, then ran south and stabbed five more victims before crossing a street and stabbing another person, according to police.

A traffic camera captured the suspect running off the Strip and attempting to flee. However, he was captured by private hotel security and turned over to Las Vegas Metro police, deputy chief James LaRochelle said.

Investigators are still working to confirm the suspect’s identity, LaRochelle said, adding that he “does not appear to be a local resident.”

Parts of the Strip remained blocked off Thursday afternoon as cops continued their investigation.

“The Strip is secure, and our investigators are working to process the scene,” Lombardo said.
