By Pramod Madhav: Two people who were arrested and charged in a case for the possession of 22 kilograms of marijuana were acquitted on Tuesday after the police informed a court that rats ate the evidence. The two accused – Rajagopal and Nageshwara Rao – were arrested in 2020 by the Marina Police in Chennai.
An investigation was initiated against them and a chargesheet was filed.

Their case was heard by a special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances court where the police submitted 50 grams of the marijuana that was seized from the accused. Police informed that another 50 gram was sent to a forensic lab for analysis.
When the court asked for the remaining 21.9 kilograms of marijuana, the police said rats ate it.
Since the police could not submit the amount of marijuana mentioned in charge sheet, Rajagopal and Nageshwara Rao were acquitted by the court.
