DENVER (KDVR) — Two Aurora police vehicles were hit over the weekend by people who were believed to have been under the influence from behind the wheel.
The Aurora Police Department said in a post Monday that the officers were lucky to only have minor injuries.
The first crash happened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday on the shoulder of Airport Boulevard. The department said an unmarked patrol vehicle was finishing a traffic stop when “out of nowhere, a driver plows right into the back of the patrol car.”
Police said several hard seltzers and other empty cans were found in the vehicle, and the driver was arrested for DUI.
Then, less than 24 hours later, around 12:32 a.m. Sunday, officers were turning onto East Mississippi Avenue from South Chambers Road when another suspected drunk driver rear ended the patrol vehicle.
“Let’s be real: there’s nothing cool, funny, or excusable about driving under the influence. Call a ride, call a friend, walk, crawl do literally anything else, just don’t drive drunk. It’s not worth the risk,” the police department wrote.
The officers were taken to hospitals for minor injuries, including whiplash for two of them.
