CHICAGO — A 16-year-old has been charged with reckless homicide and other felonies following a crash that killed a 6-month-old boy last year.

The crash happened at around 5 p.m. April 16 of last year in the 4400 block of West Washington.

Police said a stolen Hyundai sedan was traveling westbound on Washington when it struck a pickup truck. The driver was traveling at a high-rate of speed and disregarded a traffic signal.

A 6-month-old baby, Cristian Uvidia, died as a result of the crash.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested by CPD and the US Marshal fugitive task force Thursday in the 5100 block of South Wentworth. He has been charged with reckless homicide involving a motor vehicle, aggravated reckless driving causing bodily harm and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Following the crash, two teens were charged each with misdemeanor criminal trespassing. WGN News has learned charges were upgraded against one of the teens originally charged.

Family said at the time that Uvidia’s two older sisters and 34-year-old mother were expected to make a full recovery.

Over $50,000 was raised for his funeral.
