Ten people were injured in a shooting Tuesday in Denver as basketball fans celebrated the Nuggets’ first NBA championship win, police said.
Denver police said the shooting took place at about 12:30 a.m. — just over three hours after the game — and was within a mile of Ball Arena, where the Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat on Monday night.
Police initially said three of the victims are in critical conditions while the others are believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Of the eight people hospitalized at Denver Health Medical Center, one was in critical condition, one in fair and six in good condition, spokesperson Heather Burke said.

What happened in the Denver shooting?
A suspect in the shooting was among the six people with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Denver police. The suspect was taken into custody, police said.
The shooting began as a dispute between several people but “what led up to this altercation that resulted in the shots being fired, that’s still under investigation at this time,” Denver Police Department spokesperson Doug Schepman said.
Schepman said the shooting took place in downtown Denver’s LoDo district, known for its restaurants and nightlife. This was “where we had the largest gathering of folks celebrating during the night,” Schepman said, adding that the crowd had “diminished quite a bit” by the time of the incident.
