Officers said four people suffered gunshot wounds after a shooting at Z Town Gastro Bar. A man died, and three others went to the hospital, per law enforcement.
ELK GROVE, Calif. — A man is dead and three are hurt after a bar shooting early Sunday morning in Elk Grove, authorities said.
Officers found three people suffering from gunshot wounds after responding to a report of a shooting around 1:30 a.m. at Z Town Gastro Bar on Elk Grove Florin Road, according to the Elk Grove Police Department.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and fire personnel took the two other victims to the hospital, police said.
Shortly after, law enforcement said they discovered a fourth victim drove themself to the hospital.
Police have not released the conditions of the surviving victims.
The shooting was inside the bar, and Elk Grove Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Jimenez said what led up to it is under investigation.
“All the victims are adult males,” Jimenez said. “That’s the big question, right, is why? Why did this happen? What caused this person to do what they did?”
Amanda Tang, who works next door at a doughnut shop, said her security cameras captured people running from the bar as the shooting unfolded.
“Everybody starts running. I was like, ‘Wow, that’s crazy.’ It’s chaos. Very scary,” Tang said. “The more I see on the camera, the more I get anxiety right now.”
Tang said her husband was working inside the doughnut shop when the gunfire started next door. She described the neighborhood as a quiet area.
“Never had any issues. The place is very quiet, calm, and it’s really good clientele that come around in this area,” she said. “We (didn’t) hear anything because the music is pretty loud.”
The bar was closed Sunday, although Google says their hours of operation would be from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and again from 7-11:30 p.m.
Investigators continue to search for the person responsible. Law enforcement declined to provide any suspect information, saying they are trying to protect the integrity of the investigation.
Police said they ask anyone with information about the case to call the department at 916-714-5115.
“One small piece of information, or small that person may think, may be a huge piece of the puzzle that our detectives are looking for to put this all together,” Jimenez said. “We know our community is looking to us to provide those answers, to locate that person responsible for what happened early this morning and hopefully bring some peace to those families and our community as well.”
